Verity Rosewood
—The one who absquatulated
"I never wanted to leave, but I had to. For me."
Being the heir of the Rosewood family, Verity has been training and learning how to manage her family's company even at such a young age. She went to different kinds of classes, may it be public speaking classes, business management, dance classes, and many more. She had to be different, to be perfect. The pressure of being the best and perfect heir was exhausting, but she had her friends, right? The Hawthorne brothers have helped her cope with all the pressure and stress her family and everyone else pressed on her. She thought she could handle it, but everyone had their breaking points.
Grayson Hawthorne
—The Heir Apparent
"And that made me hate you even more."
Grayson had been considered as the "Heir apparent" of the family for as long as he remembered. As a Hawthorne, he was taught many things, and that included never showing emotion. He had to learn how to not cry or show signs of weakness. Being one of the oldest siblings didn't help with that at all. In fact, it just added even more pressure on him. Having to be the older and more responsible brother out of the rest. It was difficult. Trying to make yourself look as if you're not broken. He is broken and hurt, yet he makes sure not to show anyone even a second of his true emotions. He was not raised to be like that.
Verity + Grayson
—The never ending story
"In this toxic and suffocating world, we had each other."
The friendship of the Rosewood and the Hawthorne family has lasted for years now. So Verity being friends with the Hawthorne grandchildren was no such mystery. The group was always seen together during classes, tea time, playing outside on the grounds, or even skipping classes together. They were inseparable, but there were 2 children in the friend group that were much closer with each other than the rest; Verity and Grayson. The two consider each other as their safe places, the person who brings comfort to each other. Due to the pressure of their families, both of them really understood each other and considered one another as the place that they could bring down their walls and become their true selves. They felt safe, comforted, and peaceful in the presence of each other. Because for once, they felt as if they had one place they didn't have to pretend as if they're perfect.

Day 128 of waiting for Bond26 news
Let's talk numbers! Specifically, we'll be looking at Casino Royale because I'm thinking about Le Chiffre again as always haha.
I wish I could have the brainpower to express this in a more formal manner presently, but what I think is intriguing is how Le Chiffre and Bond parallel with each other in some ways. Though, I'll give special focus to numbers since that's a recurring theme.
"Le Chiffre" can be translated as "The Number" from French, mirroring Bond's designation as the number 007. Thus, numbers comprise a significant portion of their identities. For the former, it alludes to Le Chiffre's proficiency in mathematics and also demonstrates that he is a statistic to others. On the other hand, the number for Bond has granted him a license to kill but in a field that demands detachment. For these two, numbers coincide with the cold nature of the espionage world.
These two then play a game that revolves around numbers with probabilities looming over their shoulders. Numbers not only make up their identity but also determine if they get to live or not.
At the end, Le Chiffre's hand was an ace of clubs and six of hearts.
On the other hand, Bond's was a seven of spades and five of spades.
Given Bond's designation of 007, this demonstrates thematically that his odds triumph over Le Chiffre's.
(Side note, aces and sixes do align with Alec Trevelyan from Goldeneye. I don't think that's an intentional connection, but I did get the notion of six being "inferior" to seven by thinking of him. This coincides with Le Chiffre having inferior chances to Bond at the end.)
They're both numbers and chances decide which one gets chosen to win.
#james bond#countdown#casino royale#daniel craig films#(i wish i could have the motivation to do proper analysis because there's more but i hope this little ramble suffices)#(i really adore le chiffre for many reasons! i'm so normal about that guy)

I was allowed the chance to read a friend's ARC of her debut novel and finished it today. Here's my review and I heartily recommend it for those who like BL and/or pining idiots:
Cross the Line by Lucky Hart My rating: 5 of 5 stars (ARC Review) My favorite things to read tend to run to mystery, action, and suspense, whether in a modern, historical, or fantasy setting. Romance for the sake of romance is not my first choice in picking up a book. But the things my favorite fiction has across genres tend to come down to interesting and compelling characters. "Crossing the Line" has these characters in spades. They leap off the page, vibrant and alive, with a richness of details in their appearances and personalities that will have one nodding, yes, I feel like that or yes, I know someone like that. Having these characters paired with dialogue that flows naturally from one character to the other means that scenes are engaging and keep you in the story. There were plenty of times in the past week where I stayed up past my recommended bedtime to finish just one or two more chapters, or was thinking about where the story might go when I couldn't be reading. Theo and Alec, the main characters, are nicely rounded. They both have things they excel at. They have core personalities that don't waver much as the plot progresses. They have challenges and traumas, but these things neither define the characters nor act as maguffins, only appearing in order to move the plot or cause a conflict. And they are surrounded by other interesting characters in Alec's brothers and friends that enhance the story rather than distract. One of my two wants for this book is to have more women appear on the page rather than just talked about. I can see the attraction of writing the Kings as a boisterous family with four sons and they are all fun characters, but we only get a few glimpses of Mom and mentions of a beloved but deceased grandmother. Yes, Alec being on an NCAA soccer team means being surrounded by other guys, but to not have even one girl among the student population that became a friend feels unlikely. I hope future installments of the series will include a few women with the same kind of loving depth that is shown for the characters here. The plot hinges on feelings, attraction and desire crashing up against friendship and loyalty, and it's delightfully messy just like real life can be. The circumstances in which Alec and Theo keep meeting and then avoiding include decisions, both good and bad, coming from their personality traits and outside circumstances like horrible timing or being in the wrong place. It produces a good balance of emotional exploration with the occasional sitcom-level comedy bit that had me groaning of course that happened. As things move into dangerous waters for our heroes, they take responsibility for one another because they care about each other that much. Even if neither of them has quite figured it out yet, because they are complete pining idiots. My second want for this book, because the characters are so lively, was to have a little more in the denouement department. To read the conversations between a few different characters and the process of some decisions made instead of having them summarized in the epilogue. But that's a testament to how much the characters and story drew me in that I wanted more of them. I finished this book feeling satisfied and entertained. I will read it again. I want to read the next book in the author's planned series. I would recommend it to anyone who likes modern-day romances where you want to reach into the screen and knock the love interests' heads together so they figure it all out or stop keeping their feelings secret. If you're uncertain about smut, there's only three sequences where it's featured and even then the characters are mostly busy talking or feeling things. Take a chance on this one and see if it crosses the line into one of your favorites.

Hi! I’m 18+ and looking for some rp partners who are also 18+. I tend to do the paragraph style of RPing of varying lengths. I’m also not the best with romance and stuff like that. I’m not opposed to it, it’s just a blind spot of sorts for me. I really enjoy plot-heavy stuff with character interactions and stuff like that.
Here are the fandoms I like:
My Hero Academia. Deku, Bakugo, Shoji, Natsuo, Spinner, Mineta, among others (villains and students in 1A and 1B)
Fullmetal Alchemist. Alphonse, Pride, Wrath (2003), among others such as the chimeras)
The Owl House. King, Hunter, Kikimora, Willow, Philip, Raine/Eda (young versions), Amity (usually season 1), Edric, among others.
Five Nights at Freddy’s. Gregory, William, Alec, most animatronics.
Avatar the Last Airbender. Toph, (I haven’t played many others aside from Appa and Momo lol)
Undertale/Deltarune. Chara, Alphys, Undyne, Susie, Berdly, King of Spades, among others.
Legend of Zelda. Link (usually child Link from Majora’s Mask, Oot, or Wind Waker), Skull Kid, Midna, Terrako, Revali, Daruk, Sidon, possibly among others
Sonic the Hedgehog. Omega, Silver, Tails, Emerl, Charmy, Metal Sonic (Shard), Surge (before arc), Sally, among others (usually robots and kid-characters)
Marvel. Rocket Raccoon. I haven’t really played many other Marvel characters lol.
Dc. Damian Wayne. Same case as Marvel and Rocket.
Star Wars. R2D2. Again, not too many chances to play other characters.
If anyone is interested, please like this post and I’ll try and reach out!

February Reading Wrap-Up
Doing my own little review of all of my February reads in the style of one of @isfjmel-phleg‘s posts (in no particular order)
Alec by William di Canzio
I did a whole review for this one, so I don’t feel the need to add much in terms of commentary.
The Gilda Stories by Jewelle Gomez
I’ve actually got a whole review in-coming for this one, which I’m in the process of writing, as I read this book as part of my 2023 Reading Challenge for the Vampires category. I gravitated towards this book because I am a big fan of genre bending, and this has that in spades: it’s historical fiction, it’s queer romance, it’s eco-feminist fiction, it’s sci-fi, it’s everything. No regrets, I had fun, more thoughts in-coming.
The Tombs of Atuan by Ursula K. LeGuin
This is the second book in the Earthsea series. I absolutely adored A Wizard of Earthsea when I read it in January, and bought the second book immediately after finishing the first and it didn’t disappoint. I’m not going to write a whole review for this book, so I’ll just lay my thoughts down here. I love Tenar so much, she’s such a great character to spend 250 pages with, the story is mature and timeless, the world building is great and the prose is beautiful, plus it was great to see Ged again, and see what’s he’s up to. No notes, highly recommend to everybody. I’ve still got four other books in the series to read and I can’t wait.
Return to the Secret Garden by Holly Webb
I understand that I’m not the target audience for this book (the audience in question being like 7-13 year old girls), but man, this book was a slog to get through. I mentioned above when I was talking about The Tombs of Atuan that Tenar is such a great character to spend 250 pages with, and I cannot say the same about Emmie (the protagonist of this story). I have a whole review in the works for this one, but the long and short of it is that this book is basically just less interesting rehash of the original book, and I did not enjoy it.
All Creatures Great and Small by James Herriot
The whiplash of reading Return to the Secret Garden and then immediately following it up with All Creatures Great and Small was quite astounding, in the best way possible. James Herriot (the pename of Alf Wright) is an incredibly compelling writer and relays his experiences of veterinary practice in Yorkshire in the 1930s with wit and charm. I feel like I learnt a lot from this book, as he is able to balance storytelling with technical language about complex medical procedures very well, but the book is also really funny at times, I was genuinely laughing out loud at the parts with Ticki Woo. I’ll probably read the other books in the series too, once I can get around to them.
Ghost World by Daniel Clowes
This isn’t a book as such, but a serialised comic book which has since been released together as a graphic novel. I was very into the Terry Zwigoff film adaptation when I was a teenager, and I did read the comics before, but many years ago. They’re extremely edgy. I’m quite difficult to shock, but there was some jokes that really made my mouth drop at times. Others have drawn similarities to The Catcher in the Rye and I completely see why, teen angst and alienation are major themes in both works. It’s pretty depressing and (like I said) edgy, so definitely not for everybody, but I do think it’s good.
The Secret Garden on 81st Street by Ivy Noelle Weir and Amber Pedilla
Got a whole review coming for this one too. I definitely liked this one more than Return to the Secret Garden. The art style isn’t really my aesthetic, but it’s cute. There are things to like here, though I have very mixed feelings about Colin’s portrayal, and the book really feels like a PSA about mental health sometimes. Like I say, I’m going to write a whole review soon, and I’ll explore my thoughts in more detail then.
I also bought some self-published comic books from some other tumblr users this month, which I thoroughly enjoyed, they were:
Tender is the Night by @thequeenofbithynia
Really wonderful 1920s inspired short comic about butches in love. Was a nice palate cleanser after reading Alec (I highkey actually enjoyed it more than Alec though) with absolutely gorgeous art and illustrations, Andreas’ art style is beautiful and 100% my aesthetic. Here’s a link to where you can buy it is you’re interested.
Signals by @wuntrum
Really cool semi-relgious horror story about a girl who becomes obsessed with and begins to worship a radio tower after she becomes convinced that she can feel the word of god through electrical currents. Really cool, plus the art is also amazing. It kind of reminded me a bit of Serial Experiments Lain (which is an anime from the 90s that I really like). And here’s a link to where you can buy that one too.

Wai okay so like, one thing I wanted to add in that drawing but ran out of phone battery power and was racing against it, was the names of the cats. And also lil info on that big chubby black cat.
The big chubby black cat was Mel's first cat named Ace, and he was also the only cat Mel was supposed to have. But then Mel saw a couple of stray kittens, took them in. Heard bout senior cats not getting adopted in the shelter, also took them in. Saw more stray cats, took those in too. Next thing he knows he suddenly has 24 cats and still won't stop taking in strays but at least he gives those away to other loving homes now instead of keeping them.
He has their names themed. 12 cats named after zodiac signs, the other 4 black cats are named after playing cards to be themed with Ace's name (Spade, Diamond, Heart, Club). 2 cats named Cupcake and Muffin, 4 cats named after directions (North, East, West, South). And 1 cat named Palace. (He found this one nearby Alec and Ray's place and decided to name her following the theme of Alec and Ray's pet naming).
Cuz Alec and Ray has 6 cats and 1 dog (4 cats belong to Ray, the 2 cats and 1 dog belong to Alec. Have I told yall they live together? Well now I have. They also have a big aquarium with clownfishes and blue tangs in it. Finding Nemo yes) Also like wait, Alec technically has 2 dogs but 1 dog (her name is Diana) is living with his parents while the other one lives with them.
Ray's cats are named Princess, Prince, King, and Queen (my guy was also only meant to have 1 cat which was Princess oh but looky here, he ended up with 3 more). He roped Alec into following the theme with his own pets so Alec's cats got named Duchess and Duke with the dog being named Knight. Mel decided to follow that with his one cat and named her Palace. (Also like Alec wasn't even supposed to have any more pets other than Diana but Ray got him to get the 2 cats so Alec was like, yk what? i'll get a dog too why not).
#aria rants#am i coherent enough? can you follow my rambling that i was meant to keep short but ended up somewhat long?#i cant keep to one topic i ended up jumping to another but at least its still in line with pets' names right?#i keep adding alec and ray's names and stuff bout em and im sorry it's a curse with these 5#theyre all connected in a way that theyre friends and buddies and i have to talk bout em all as much as possible#and as lil as possible too otherwise id ennd up derailing from my main point#and also all their pets are from the shelter#ariaoc#ariaoc: mel

before he even opened his mouth, julie was already annoyed. jamming the spade of the shovel into the ground, she leaned on it and turned those stormy eyes up at him. She was stuck with him. ❝ call me sweetheart again, you insufferable dick and see what happens. ❞ the tone of her voice lowered, words lost in that vibrating purr. ❝ yes, i'm well aware you couldn't care less what happens to me. you tell me that every time you see me. but do i need to remind you that this is your fuckin' mess? ❞ it wasn't a lie. and if it wasn't for julie, they'd have been able to get to him so he sure had a fucking odd way of thanking her for saving his ass. again.
she was filthy and it was aggravating her. dirt clung to her and she had pulled her hair up not caring that the back of her neck was visible. it was just alec, he had a mark that matched her own. was this their life now? sometimes she wondered if it would have been better if they just stayed in manticore. and then she remembered the torture and abuse. a shudder visibly shook her before she turned her attention back to him. watching carefully as it seemed that he was having a moment much like her own. they both endured fucked up things in different ways. used by that place to fulfill different purposes. hearing his question, julie rolled her eyes and shook her head before laughing and bringing her hand up to wipe her cheek. she only managed to smudge the dirt around. ❝ yeah sure, why not. ❞ and this was how it always was between them. he could annoy the fuck out of her and she would still fall for it. they were two peas in a pod, for better or worse and she'd take advantage of that for as long as she could until they parted ways yet again. Saturday Night Live Alum Slams Alec Baldwin: He Said My Breasts Looked Like Garbage Cans
“Saturday Night Live” alum Victoria Jackson is calling out Alec Baldwin, who has hosted the NBC show 17 times, for commenting on her breasts on two occasions — and she claims once he said it to her face. Jackson joined former “SNL” colleagues Dana Carvey and David Spade on their reflective “Fly on the Wall” podcast Wednesday and said, “We gotta talk about Alec Baldwin, because he was on ‘Fly on…
